I have been possessed by the desire to paint dead song birds. Of course, I can't find any. (Well, I did find one, but I was in the middle of a tour at the arboretum...and I thought it might traumatize the guests if I took it with me...)

And I certainly don't want to kill songbirds...

So I am sort of in a pickle.

Wow...that would be an interesting concept XD;

I can see why finding a dead song bird might be a bit hard, considering that most people won't take pictures of those type of things...Maybe surf around on the internet and see if you can find anything? Ir even find one picture of a dead bird and reference living ones with the way the dead ones body lays and try to sketch Something up that way?

Look around buildings, especially under bushes. It shouldn't take long to find one; I've gotten attuned so that I find at least 2 or 3 if not more a day. Everyday we lose hundreds of thousands of songbirds to buildings with windows, but most people don't notice because they land in bushes, or are taken by possums, raccons, rats, etc. I am a birder who likes to ID species I see, so I find them frequently. I'd send you the Ceder Waxwing currently under the rhododendren but I don't think the PO would find dead tissue okay for sending.

Hell, I can take my camera out tommorow and get pictures (on my campus we have a pair of falcons...there are dead songbirds EVERYWHERE...minus body parts usually...)
Mostly I didn't want to work from photographs, or at least not photographs I had the rights to (since I would be offering the paintings for sale)...so I was hoping to find some actual little bodies. :XD: It is hard. For me anyway...>_>

Ha ha, yes, well, we have loads of those in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, they EAT what they catch. :XD:

Ah, wow. I never see them! Which is guess is good, in many ways. :XD: I guess I am not looking in the right places. Not a whole lot of large buildings where I live, and certainly not many at the Arboretum. The one I did see had hit the greenhouse; perhaps I should be looking there more often.

Aaaaw, yes, PO says no to dead things. Too bad!

Any pictures you want to take and send me would be welcomed, if you don't mind my using them as reference for paintings I would be selling. ;)

Even houses are dangrous to birds, it doesnt take a city. I live out in western MA, in one of the rurally areas, the only large buildings are on campus.

Nah, I don't have a problem with the painting being sold. I don't think I even want credit for the refrences...O_o...

I need to ge the 450 pics off of my camera at any rate and this will give me the kick I need. I can even send you the species with each pic so you can color it better.

I'll feel a little creepy, TBH, but it'll be an interesting project.
hehe...nice...oooo if you do a brief search on here for 'dead bird' a few pics come up maybe if you ask the owners if you can use them as refs you could paint them the colour of your local songbirds?

i think its a great idea for a project if a little poignant... my fave birds are actually blackbirds and song thrushes they mean a lot to me. i'm gonna sound dumb here but do you have blackbirds in the US?

I saw a humming bird once, but that was about it XD;; I don't think you're going to find much in that department though lol

Maybe just study the way a birds body moves and look at dead pictures of ones to see how they "lay", and then turn away and use your imagination to start sketching? Might be worth a try. ^_^
